2019-09-15-to-believe-or-not-to-believe

Thrust: As we are anointed to make a difference, there is both the Devil who sets you up for misery, and God who sets you up for maturity.

Recap on our theme for 2019:

  • Christians are called, anointed, and empowered to be workers in the Kingdom of God.
  • To see a miraculous change, breakthrough, victory, release, hope for all our people so that they can make the necessary impact and difference for God
  • Each of us are
    • Commissioned
    • Enabled
    • Qualified
    • Equipped
    • Endowed
    • Charged

1. The Devil Sets You Up For Misery

Be sober, for your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking-whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8)

A. Always derailing or distracting you

“…every man is tempted, when he is drawn away [distracted] of his own lust and enticed.” (James 1:4)

B. Always tempts us to do the wrong thing

You can’t stop a bird from landing on your head. But you can keep it from building a nest. ~ Martin Luther

Satan does not tempt us just to make us do wrong things – he tempts us to make us lose what God has put into us through regeneration, namely, the possibility of being of value to God ~ Oswald Chambers

C. Always is the enemy of God’s destiny in our life

“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them.” ~ C. S. Lewis

2. God Sets You Up for Maturity

A. Recognizes the Position of God

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. (Gen. 50:20)

B. Recognize the Presence of God

I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus. (Rev. 1:9)

“Patmos” means “my killing” (Dictionary of Scripture Proper Names).

  • It was a barren island

“Barren” means

  • Unable to produce offspring; infertile
  • Not producing or bearing seeds, fruit
  • Lacking inspiration or vitality; fruitless
C. Recognize the Power of God

11 As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, “This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!” 13 So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.” (Gen 12:11-13)

13 Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” 16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up”  (Dan 3:13-18)
