Scripture: 1 Cor 11:23-25

23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”(Do it to remember me)

What is the Holy Communion

  • Holy Communion, commonly called the Lord’s Supper, represents the greatest expression of God’s amazing and unsurpassed love for His people
  • Substance to use – bread/biscuit and grape juice

Why the bread and the cup of grape juice

  • Bread – represents Jesus’ body that was scourged, tortured, bled and broken – for our healing and wholeness
  • Grape juice – represents His blood that was shed – for our redemption and reconciliation with God

Do this in Remembrance of Me

In Remembrance of 5 things:

1. His COMMUNION with Us

  • Communion = a close relationship with someone in which feelings and thoughts are exchanged (Cambridge Dictionary)
  • His union with us; His close relationship with us and our close relationship with Him
  • His love, sacrifice, death and resurrection for us
  • He is God in us, with us, for us
  • Acts 17:28 – For in Him we live and move and have our being
  • We belong to Him and we live in close communion with Him
  • Jesus knows who He is to us and who we are to Him

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3)

Do not worry about things… and about tomorrow (Matthew 6:25-34)

Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)

2. His COMMANDMENT to Us

A. Mark 12:30 – Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength
  • Love Him wholeheartedly and completely – withholding nothing from Him
  • Love Him sincerely and unconditionally – without ulterior motives or benefits
  • Love Him willingly and gratefully – without grudge or force

Why? Because He is worthy!

We love because He first loved us.

B. Mark 12:31 – Love your neighbour as yourself

  • Show care to others – especially the poor and needy
  • Do not harm or take advantage of them
  • Do not exploit the poor or bully the weak
  • Be a blessing and not a bane to others

3. His COMMISSION to Us

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. (Mark 16:15)

Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

4. His COMMITMENT to Us

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Joshua 1:5)

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6)

5. His COMING Again

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:26)

“Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)

Today and everyday, Remember Jesus who loves you and cares for you.

Remember His:

  • Communion with us
  • Commandment to us
  • Commission to us
  • Commitment to us and our consecration to Him
  • Coming again for us

Keep your focus on CHRIST and you will live with faith and hope.

Keep your focus on COVID-19 and you will live with fear and hopelessness.

Challenge:

  • Be ready for His soon coming
  • Live a holy life
  • Stop playing the fool
  • Be prepared to meet Jesus with no regrets

Hold the bread and declare:

Thank You, Father, for loving me and giving Your Son to die on the cross for my sins. His Body was broken, so that mine will be made whole. Today, I believe that by His stripes my body is healed, restored, renewed and rejuvenated.

In Jesus’ name, I believe and I receive. Amen.

Hold the Cup and say:

Father, I thank You for the precious blood of Your Son, shed for my sin and redemption. Thank You forgiving me and setting me free from sin, guilt and condemnation. Thank You for making me righteous in Your sight and for granting me eternal life. I look forward to Jesus’ soon coming and to spending eternity with You in heaven.

In Jesus’ name, I pray and believe. Amen.
