Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

How to run well and finish victoriously?

1. Run with Faith

  • surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
  • the example of men and women of faith
  • not by feeling or with our own strength
  • Hebrews 10:38 – “the just shall live by faith”

2. Run with no Weight and Sin

  • lay aside every weight and sin
  • cast off anything that would hinder you.
  • the sin that so easily entangles = lack of faith
  • No faith = can’t run well = no victory

3. Run with Endurance

  • It is a struggle
  • It is a duty and responsibility
  • Don’t give up!

4. Run with Determination to Finish Well

  • the race set before us
  • Run in the right direction with proper guidance

5. Run with Jesus in mind

  • Keep your focus on Christ and you won’t be distracted
  • He is the author of your faith. He started this race for you.
  • He is the finisher of your faith. He will help you finish this race.
  • Fix your eyes on Jesus – so that you will not grow weary and lose heart

I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return]. (Philippians 1:6, AMP)

There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears. (Philippians 1:6, MSG)

Remember:
Jesus endured everything to the end for you.
He came, suffered, died and was buried.
But He resurrected, ascended and was enthroned and exalted at the right hand of God.

“He ever lives to make intercession for us.” (Hebrews 7:25)

For God Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5b-6)
