Scripture: Judges 6:11-17, 36-40

11 The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” 13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” 14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” 15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” 16 The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.” 17 Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me…

36 Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— 37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” 38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. 39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.

“Find your limitation, exceed it!”

Sometimes we have some form low self-esteem, and we recognize that we have many limitations.

But God says, “I will help you, I will assist you, I will be with you!”

You are far more capable than you think you are, because the Lord is with you!

The devil wants you to believe that you are good for nothing, but God wants you to recognize your limitation and to go beyond it with His empowerment.

Background of Gideon:

  • 5th judge of Israel
  • Israel had forsaken God and worshipped idols
  • God had withdrawn and the nation suffered
  • Cries were heard by God and used Gideon to answer the need
  • A reluctant leader

Proposition: With the Lord in us, we will not only overcome our limitation, but also go beyond it.

1. Your Background is not a limitation to God. (v.13)

“The extreme bitterness of the national sufferings under the Midianite occupation breaks out in Gideon’s language.”

Many times we read into the circumstance and come to our own negative conclusion.

But God reminds us,

The Lord is with you, O man of war (Judges 6:12)

The book of Exodus reminds of God’s power and provision when His presence goes with us.

  • Exo. 14 – the parting of the Red Sea
  • Exo. 15 – water became fit to drink
  • Exo. 16 – miraculous provision of manna

May we always be reminded – THE LORD IS WITH YOU!

2. Your Position is not a limitation to God (v.15)

No matter our current position, God always sees the best in us. Our confidence must be in God and His Word!

God does not need you to be strong. God wants to be your strength!

We often want to be strong in a way that reflects well on us, but God wants us to be strong in a way that reflects well on Him.

“We may not realize what it means for God to be our strength until we’re weak enough that He’s our only option.”

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isa. 40:29, 31)

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Cor. 12:9-10, ESV)

3. Your Doubt is not a limitation to God (v.17)

In a time of doubt, we can learn a vital lesson – God is more than willing to put us through circumstances to strengthen our faith!

I believe, help my unbelief. (Mark 9:24)

We must be willing to become more faithful, and God is more than able to help us deal with our doubt and unbelief.

Recently we celebrated our 90th Anniversary – Zenith. The word means the peak or the summit.

Yet, the Lord reminded me that if you continue to go to the mountain to receive His guidance, His direction, His Spirit, and then do what He has commanded you to do, you will see the best of the zeniths in your life like never before!

In our journey through life, we have been hurt many times, and we are fearful of getting hurt again. But we have to learn to go beyond our hurts, to seek God and allowing Him to fill us all over again. Then we are able to continue moving forward!

How many us have missed going up to the mountain to gain an encounter with God again?

It’s None Like You

In every season You are so faithful
You were there through the darkest nights
And brought us to the dawn
You promise more to come
A glory greater than before
Though we know not what the future holds
We walk on, trusting You

Who can compare to You
You alone are faithful and true
You are Eternal
You stand forever
None can compare to You
You alone are Glorious
You are Victorious
You reign forever
