Scripture: Psa 139:1-18

1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” 12 Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. 13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; 16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.

Thrust: God always remembers us and reminds us of His faithfulness to us and His faith in us.

1. You Are Always on God’s Mind

A. He Remembers You All the Time

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers the moon and the stars, which You have ordained What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? (Psa 8:3-4)

Man = adam, Son of Man = enos
Mindful = zakar, Visit = paqad

The Lord remembers us and will bless us. (Psa 115:5)

B. He Thinks Good Thoughts of You
  • Precious (v.17a)
  • Innumerable (v.17b)
  • Uncountable (v.18a)
  • Everpresent (v.18b)

Can a mother forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely, they may forget. Yet I will not forget you! (Isa 49:15)

2. You Are Forever Before God’s Eyes

A. He Sees You in ALL Situations

His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees ALL his steps. (Job 34:21)

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me. 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You. (vv.7-12)

  • When we’re in heaven (v.8a)
  • When we’re in hell (v.8b)

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. (Matt 10:29-31)

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (Gen 6:8)

Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? (Job 1:8)

B. He Sees You in Different Places

For the ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, and He watches all his paths. (Pro 5:21)

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good (Pro 15:3)

3. You Are Ever in God’s Hands

A. He Protects You

You have a strong arm; Your hand is mighty, Your right hand is exalted. (Psa 89:13)

Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me. (Isa 49:16)

… the hand of the Lord will be made known to His servants, but He will be indignant toward His enemies. (Isa 66:14)

Stretch forth your hand from on high; rescue me and deliver me out of great waters, out of the hands of aliens. (Psa 144:7)

Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power, Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy. (Exo 15:6)

… the Lord loved you and kept the oath… to your forefathers, the Lord brought you our by a mighty hand and redeemed you from .. slavery, from … Egypt. (Deut 7:8)

…all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever. (Jos 4:24)

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand. (Psa 20:6)

Behold, the Lord’s hand is not short that it cannot save. (Isa 59:1)

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. (Jn 10:28-29)

B. He Guides You

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. (Psa 40:1-2)

Make me know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths, lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation. (Psa 25:4-5)

Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path because of my foes. (Psa 27:11)

Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it. (Psa 119:35)

  1. God thinks about you all the time
  2. God sees everywhere you go or anywhere you are at
  3. God keeps you safe in God’s hands
