Scripture: Deut 1:8, 21; 30:15-16

8See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them…
21See, the Lord your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has told you. Do not fear or be dismayed…
30:15See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in His ways, and by keeping His commandments and His statutes and His rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

In the Old Testament, God showed displeasure against His people for lack of sight and foresight:

Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving. (Isa 6:9)

Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people. (Eze 12:1-2)

Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear. (Jer 15:21)

16“Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the Temple that makes the gold sacred? 18You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ 19You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?’” (Matt 23:16-19)

17You say, “I am rich… and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from Me gold… so you can become rich… white clothes to… cover your… nakedness… salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Rev 3:17-18)

I. HEAR what God Says to You

To hear well, you must have unclogged ears – ears without wax.

A. God Speaks Through His SERVANTS

19And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed … 20knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. (2 Pet 1:19-21)

3 Truths from this passage:

  1. We have the prophetic word confirmed
  2. We do well to heed it
  3. We know the holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit

16ALL Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is PROFITABLE for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Pet 3:16-17, NKJV)

For verily I say unto you, “Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matt 5:18, KJV)

23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God. 24For, ‘All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25but the Word of the Lord stands forever.’ And this is the Word that was preached to you. (1 Pet 1:23-25)

B. God Speaks Through His SON

God’s Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is far greater than their names. (Heb 1:4, NLT)

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. (Col 1:15, NLT)

He is the Head of the Body, the Church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. (Col 1:18, NIV)

C. God Speaks Through His SCRIPTURES

Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. (Deut 8:3, ESV)

18Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of your law (Word)… 105Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psa 119:18, 105, ESV)

5Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. 6Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and you be found a liar. (Pro 30:5-6)

We thank God… that when you received the Word of God… from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the Word of God, which is at work in you. (1 Thes 2:13)

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Heb 4:12)

3 Characteristics of God’s Word

  1. It is living and active (v.12a)
  2. It is sharper than any double-edged sword (v.12b)
  3. It penetrates to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, judges thoughts and attitudes (v.12c)

II. SEE What God Shows You

To see well, we must have unclouded eyes – eyes without scales.

A. See Things Spiritually

15Therefore… after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17that… God… may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know… (Eph 1:15-17, NKJV)

31Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:31-32)

  1. Don’t just see things outwardly
  2. Don’t see with worldly wisdom
  3. Don’t solve spiritual issues with carnal mind

Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people. (Gen 50:20-21, MSG)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. (Pro 3:5-6, ESV)

9“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him”—10these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Cor 2:9-11)

  1. See promotions out of problems
  2. See blessings instead of burdens
  3. See opportunities rather than obstacles
  4. See half-full, not half-empty
B. See Things Supernaturally
  1. See the natural becoming supernatural
  2. See the ordinary become extraordinary

With man this is impossible, but with God ALL things are possible (Matt. 19:26)

III. DO What God Summons You

To take actions, we must have uncluttered hands – hands not clutching non-essentials.

A. Do the Good Thing

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38)

B. Do the God Thing

Enter 2020 with 20/20 vision with unclogged ears, unclouded eyes and uncluttered hands.

  1. Tune to God’s frequency. Let Him speak distinctly all that you need to hear to build up your faith for 2020.
  2. Open your eyes and see from God’s perspective.
  3. Drop all unnecessary clutter in your hands. Find both good things and God things to do.
