Scripture: Galatians 6:1-7

1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ. 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5for each one should carry his own load. 6Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. 7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Rom 14:7-8)

Principle 1: Stronger Christians must help the weaker ones

Dear brothers and sisters, if another Christian is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. (v.1)

A. You who are godly

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. (John 20:23)

B. Should gently help a person back onto the right path

Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?… Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more. (John 8:10-11)

May we not be people who merely say: “Elim is a magnetic house of healing. It’s also a place of refreshing” but be people who do what they say.

And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. (v.1c)

Principle 2: Fellow Christians must share each other’s burdens

2Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ. 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else (vv.2-4)

26You are all [children] of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are ALL ONE in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26–28).

A. Share Each Other’s Troubles And Problems
  • Be observant
  • Be proactive
  • Be willing to go the second mile
B. In This Way Obey The Law Of Christ
C. If You Think You’re Too Important To Help Someone In Need, You’re Only Fooling Yourself
D. You’re Really A Nobody
E. Be Sure To Do What You Should

Principle 3: Every Christian must watch his life and not be a burden to others

For we are each responsible for our own conduct. (v.5)

The Challenge

7The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. 8Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10Each one should use whatever gift he’s received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power; forever and ever. Amen. (1 Pet 4:7-11)

10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord… 13Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality… 15Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16Live in harmony with one another. (Rom 12:10–16)
