Scripture: Exodus 28:40-41

For Aaron’s sons you shall make coats and sashes and caps. You shall make them for glory and beauty. 41 And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve Me as priests.

3 Core Elements of our Vision and Mission

  1. To be a Spirit-filled people,
  2. a Spirit-filled church,
  3. Reaching and impacting the spiritually unresolved here and beyond.

1. ANOINTED

  1. WHAT
    • Anointing is a divine empowerment or enablement to accomplish God’s purpose for our life
  2. WHO
    1. All Believers of Christ
    2. All Christians are called, anointed and empowered to be workers in the Kingdom of God
    3. An anointed one is chosen, consecrated and commissioned (set apart) by God to do His work
  3. WHEN
    1. The moment we received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
    2. The moment we surrender our life and all to Him
    3. At all times and on all occasions
  4. WHERE
    • At the place of surrender, submission, obedience and total dependence
  5. WHY
    1. On our own, we are powerless, ill-equipped, incapable, incompetent, under-prepared, unqualified
    2. We can’t do anything, but we can do all things through Christ who empowers and strengthens us
  6. HOW
    1.  Believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
      1. When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell or live in us so that we are now His tabernacle or dwelling place.
      2. We receive the Holy Spirit by faith

2. TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  1. WHAT
    • We are empowered to Preach, Teach, Reach, Keep (Edify, Educate, Evangelize, Equip)
  2. WHERE
    1. At home, workplace, camp, school, church, society
    2. Abroad, nations, other countries
    3. In car, bus, van, plane, ship, food-court, restaurant, etc
  3. WHO
    1. The spiritually unresolved = unbelievers and backsliders
    2. The Believers
  4. WHY
    • Without Christ they will perish eternally
  5. WHEN
    1. When called upon;
    2. When a need arises or is presented;
    3. When guided and directed by the Holy Spirit
  6. HOW
    • How to stay or remain empowered and anointed for ministry?
      1. Get to know the heart, will and purposes of God by reading His Word and spending time in prayer
      2. Made a definite and concentrated effort to devote more time to true, honest, seeking prayer and Bible study
      3. Be Christ-centred and focused
      4. Make your life a reflection God’s grace and glory

3. Scripture References

A. In Old Testament
  • Who? = Priests, Judges, Kings, Prophets, Individuals (Moses, Aaron, Joshua, etc)
B. In New Testament
  • Who? = Jesus, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Individuals (Paul, Timothy, Titus, etc)
C. Key Scriptural References

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19)

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12)

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth… 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him. (1 John 2: 20, 27)

4. Hindrances to Anointing (People)

WHO will try to stop the anointing being operated in our life?

  1. Satan = enemy of our soul
  2. The Anti-Christ = anti-anointed one; one who is against the Anointed One and His Anointing (1 John 2:18)
  3. The anti-christs = demon-inspired people and evil spirits that stand against the anointing (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
  4. Our carnal self

1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

5. Hindrances to Anointing (Factors / Circumstances)

WHAT will quench and hinder the anointing from operating in our life?

  1. Sin in general: unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, anger, hatred, jealousy, envy, fear, doubt, worry, etc
  2. Works of the flesh in particular (Gal 5:19-21)

19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

6. Preparation of the Church for the Anointing

  1. Pursue God
    1. Jeremiah 29:13 – Seek me…find me…seek me with all your heart
    2. 1 Chronicles 22:19 – Set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God
    3. Colossians 3:1-2 – Seek the things that are above …Set your minds on things that are above, not on  things that are on earth
  2. Pray Earnestly
    1. 2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
    2. Psalm 34:18 – The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
    3. Pray for courage to stand up for truth
    4. Submit to God’s will – James 4:7-8
    5. Put on the full armor of God – Eph 6:11, 13-17
  3. Purify our Heart – live a holy life to honour and glorify the Lord
    1. James 4:8 – Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
    2. 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
    3. Ps. 51:10 – Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Ps. 119:9-11, 133 – How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your word. 10 I seek You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commands. 11 I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You… 133 Direct my footsteps according to Your word; let no sin rule over me.
  4. Proclaim the Gospel
    1. Get our people grounded in the Word – know God and His will
    2. Teach them how to testify, witness and evangelize wherever they are
    3. Encourage them to go to the mission field = local and overseas
    4. Challenge them to give sacrificially to missions
  5. Produce Disciples
    1. Teach our people the ways of God, holy living, a life of faith and trust with a strong foundation
    2. Teach our people how to wage spiritual warfare; how to do deliverance; how to live an overcoming and victorious life; how to tap into God’s awesome power and eliminate every potential limitation
    3. Teach our people to die to self – count the cost and pay the price – in order to follow Jesus all the way (and reap the reward later)

7. Source of Power and Perseverance: Holy Spirit

  1. Be filled with the Spirit – Eph. 5:18
  2. Pray in the Spirit at all times – Eph 6:18

8. Reasons for Equipping the Church:

So that,

  1. Leaders and members will remain strong, solid, stable (unshakeable) and settled when the “strikes and storms” come; when trials, tests and tribulations come; when difficult, terrible and perilous times come.
  2. We will raise a church and a people built on Christ and Him alone – not on people, personality, programs and props.
  3. Leaders and members will be anointed doers of God’s Word and not just hearers and talkers of His Word.
  4. Leaders and members will fear God, live for Him, and be ready for Christ’s Second Coming.
  5. Leaders and members will walk by audacious faith and not by sight and feeling, and will operate in the supernatural.
  6. God’s will and purpose will be done and accomplished in and through Elim Church – for His glory and honor.

9. Results

  1. We will have God’s favour and guidance, blessings and anointing on Elim Church and her members
  2. We will see more souls saved and added into the kingdom of God
  3. We will see God adding more people to Elim Church and trusting and enabling us to take care of them
  4. We will live in confidence and victory, and not in fear and defeat
  5. We will see signs, wonders and miracles taking place in our lives, ministry, church, care cells, homes and workplace

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2)

Offer yourself to God as a willing vessel

  • for His use
  • for His will to be done in your life
  • for His purposes to be accomplished in and through your life
  • for His glory and honor. Amen!

Ask the Lord for 2 things

  1. Grant you a double portion of His anointing
  2. Ask Him to use you mightily to make a difference in the lives of many people, especially those who have yet to know Him.
